Attaching Metal, MDF, and Wooden Signs to Wreaths: A Creative Guide

Introduction: Wreaths are a delightful way to add a touch of personality and charm to any space, be it your front door, living room wall, or even a special event. When it comes to enhancing the visual appeal of wreaths, incorporating signs can make a significant difference. In this blog post, we will explore three different methods to attach metal signs using a jewelry punch and chenille stems, secure MDF and wooden signs with 1/4″ staples, and how to tie them onto 15″ wire wreath work forms.

Method 1: Attaching Metal Signs with a Jewelry Punch and Chenille Stems Metal signs are a popular choice for wreaths due to their durability and versatility. To attach a metal sign securely, you will need a jewelry punch and chenille stems. Here’s a step-by-step guide:

  • Determine the position: Decide where you want to place the metal sign on your wreath. Consider the overall composition and balance.
  • Mark the holes: Place the metal sign on the wreath and mark the position of the holes on the sign using a pen or marker. Ensure the marks align with the desired placement on the wreath.
  • Punch the holes: Take a jewelry punch and align it with the marked holes on the metal sign. Apply firm pressure to create holes. Ensure the holes are evenly spaced for a balanced look.
  • Attach the chenille stems: Cut two pieces of chenille stems, each about 6 inches long. Insert one end of a chenille stem through each hole from the backside of the metal sign. Bend the ends to secure the stem to the sign.
  • Secure the sign to the wreath: Position the metal sign on the wreath and weave the free ends of the chenille stems through the wires of the wreath. Twist the ends tightly to secure the sign in place. Trim any excess chenille stem for a neat finish.

Method 2: Securing MDF and Wooden Signs with 1/4″ Staples MDF and wooden signs offer a rustic and natural touch to wreaths. Attaching them securely requires the use of staples. Follow these steps:

  • Determine the placement: Choose the location where you want to attach the MDF or wooden sign on your wreath. Consider the visual balance and overall design.
  • Position the sign: Place the sign on the desired spot, ensuring it is centered and aligned.
  • Staple the sign: Using a staple gun with 1/4″ staples, staple a chenille stem(pipe cleaner) in all 4 corners of a square sign, and one on each side of a rectangle sign. I use a scrap piece of 1 1/2″ ribbon between the sign and chenille stem so the staple will not show through the front of the sign. Sometimes the signs are not quite 1/4″ thickness. Now attach the sign in the desired position, by tying the chenille stems to the wire work form.

Method 3: Tying Signs onto 15″ Wire Wreath Work Forms For wire wreath work forms, tying the signs with wire or ribbon is an excellent option. Here’s how to do it:

  • Choose the location: Decide where you want to position the sign on the wire wreath work form. Take into account the aesthetics and overall balance. We love to tie our signs on our wreaths with chenille stems, or also called pipe cleaners, down here in the South. They stand up very well to our high humidity, but there are other options like the ones below. You can also use the 3M cable tie mounts as well.
  • Prepare the wire or ribbon: Cut a length of wire or ribbon, ensuring it is long enough to tie securely around the wreath form and through the sign holes.
  • Thread the wire or ribbon: Insert one end of the wire or ribbon through the holes in the sign, from the back to the front. Make a loop or knot to secure the wire/ribbon to the sign.
  • Attach the sign to the wreath form: Position the sign on the desired spot on the wire wreath form. Wrap the wire or ribbon around the form and tie it securely. Adjust the sign’s position as needed and ensure it is stable.

Conclusion: Adding signs to wreaths allows for personalization and customization, creating a unique and eye-catching display. Whether you’re attaching metal signs using a jewelry punch and chenille stems, securing MDF and wooden signs with 1/4″ staples, or tying them onto wire wreath work forms, these methods will help you create stunning wreaths that reflect your style and creativity. Let your imagination run wild as you experiment with different sign placements and designs, turning your wreaths into beautiful works of art. Happy wreath-making!

    1. Donna we will have to look and see, but at this time we don’t have any in-stock. If we do find it from our suppliers, we may have to purchase at least 12 rolls of each, and it will definitely be hard for us to sell them, due to we are in Mississippi. We also don’t have any navy blue work forms, but we may can get some of those. I am sorry that it took so long to get back to you. Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with. Thank you for checking out our Blog 😊❤️😊,
