Hey there, fellow food enthusiasts! Welcome back to With the Bickhams – your one-stop destination for scrumptious recipes and delightful stories. Today, we’re diving deep into the heart of the deep south to share with you a soul-warming dish that’s near and dear to our hearts: Cheesy Bacon Shrimp Bisque.
Once upon a time in the vibrant culture of the Gulf Coast, where flavors and traditions collide, Shrimp Bisque was born. This creamy, flavorful concoction embodies the essence of southern hospitality. It’s a dish that warms your heart and body, just like a heartfelt hug from a dear friend on a crisp autumn day.
Down here in the south, seafood is more than just a meal; it’s a way of life. And when you add a dash of Louisiana flair to it, magic happens. Our resident chef, Craig, hails from the heart of Cajun country, Louisiana. His cooking style is a blend of rich traditions, bold spices, and a whole lot of love.
If you’re a fan of creamy soups, this recipe is about to become your new obsession. So, gather ’round, y’all, and let’s whip up a pot of Cheesy Bacon Shrimp Bisque that’ll make your taste buds dance.
Ingredients:
- 1 bunch of green onions, chopped
- 2 bell peppers (any color will work), chopped
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 large tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon granulated onion
- 1 tablespoon granulated garlic
- 1/2 tablespoon paprika
- 1 tablespoon of dried parsley flakes
- Seafood seasoning to taste
- 2 capfuls of your favorite liquid crab boil
- 1/2 pack of bacon
- 1 16 oz carton of small curd cottage cheese
- 1 jar of Alfredo sauce
- 1 can Cream of Shrimp soup
- 1/2 a quart of Half and Half
- 2 tablespoons of All-Purpose flour
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups of chicken or seafood broth
- 2 to 3 tablespoons of butter
- 2 lbs of peeled and deveined shrimp
Let’s Get Cooking:
- Begin by chopping all your veggies while you’re browning that delicious bacon in a large saucepan. We like to think of it as the sizzle of anticipation.
- Once the bacon is halfway cooked and beautifully browned, add in all your chopped vegetables and sauté until they become translucent. Don’t forget to add the garlic and parsley to elevate those flavors.
- In another pot, combine the shrimp, bay leaves, broth, crab boil, and butter. Bring this to a boil and cook the shrimp until they turn a delightful shade of pink – this usually takes just a couple of minutes. Let them mingle and soak in those flavors for a bit.
- Once your veggies are ready, reduce the heat to medium, add in the flour, and stir until it absorbs all the oil. Next, pour in the Half and Half, seasonings, and spices. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens to velvety perfection.
- Add in the can of corn and heat it through, then introduce the shrimp and a bit of their flavorful broth into the creamy mixture. Stir until it reaches a blissful, creamy consistency.
- In a blender or food processor, blend the cottage cheese, cream of shrimp, and Alfredo sauce until it’s as smooth as a southern drawl. Add a little Half and Half to the Alfredo sauce jar, give it a good shake, and pour it into the creamy mixture.
- Finally, combine the cottage cheese, soup, and Alfredo mixture with the creamy shrimp concoction. Stir it all together until you reach the perfect balance of flavors. Taste it and adjust the seasoning to your liking.
Now, serve this divine Cheesy Bacon Shrimp Bisque in a bowl, and top it off with a sprinkle of shredded parmesan cheese and some sliced green onions. If you’ve got any leftover green onions (we sometimes forget too), they make the perfect garnish.
